Yes. The private use of a company bicycle is tax-free in Austria - there is no benefit in kind and it is not subject to income tax.

Part of the gross salary is used to finance the bicycle. As this reduces the assessment basis for taxes and duties, the monthly deductions are reduced - the bike becomes cheaper. It should be noted that the offer only becomes significantly more attractive for employees if they earn at least the total rate of the bicycle above the collective agreement. Only then can the great advantage of salary conversion be applied. Of course, allowances, lump sums and other recurring remuneration from the employment relationship can also be included.

In the event of termination, whether by the employer or the employee, there are several options for dealing with the active leasing contract:

1. the company bike can be handed over to a colleague and the contract continues under the same conditions.

2. the company bike can be taken to the new employer, provided the new employer is also a Lease a Bike customer.

3. the company bike can be bought out of the contract at the currently calculated residual value.

4. the leasing contract is terminated without incurring any costs. This means that the company bike will be collected by agreement with Lease a Bike or returned to a Lease a Bike partner dealer. No further costs are incurred.

A premature termination of a leasing contract is possible in certain cases, even during the agreed contract period of 36 or 48 months. Feel free to contact us regarding this.

With salary conversion, part of your contractually agreed salary is not paid out in cash, but instead provided as a benefit in kind for the duration of the company bike lease.

This means that an additional agreement to your employment contract is made, in which your future salary is reduced by a fixed amount (usually equivalent to the leasing rate) for the duration of the bike usage agreement – with mutual consent.

The salary that is subject to income tax and social security contributions is therefore calculated based on the reduced amount after deducting the leasing rate.

Important: Due to current legal regulations, salary conversion is only possible for income that exceeds the collective agreement minimum!

A user change is generally possible during the contract period. This is usually due to the discontinuation of salary payments to the employee – for example, when they leave the company.

• Eight weeks before the end of the lease agreement, employees receive an email informing them that the period of use is coming to an end and offering them the opportunity to purchase the used company bike.
• Once they have accepted the purchase offer, employees receive an invoice.
• The gross value of the benefit in kind stated in the email must be reported by employees to their payroll department so that the monetary benefit can be taken into account for tax purposes.
• Employees simply pay the purchase price by bank transfer. Once payment has been received and the contract has expired as normal, ownership of the bike is transferred to the employees.
• If they do not wish to purchase the bike, we will arrange for it to be conveniently collected from the employees' homes.

In the event of discontinued salary payments—e.g. due to termination of employment, extended sick leave, parental leave, or other possible reasons—we always work together to find the best solution for all parties involved.

This may include, for example:

User change: You assign the company bike to another employee for the remainder of the contract term and take all necessary internal steps (e.g. amending the employment contract, transferring the company bike, etc.).

Early mutual termination of the existing leasing contract for important economic reasons, with the option for the employee to take over the used company bike.

Company change: It is possible to transfer the existing leasing contract to a new employer. This requires the consent of both companies. After a successful credit check and registration with Lease a Bike, the new employer continues the contract with all rights and obligations, and the company bike remains assigned to the employee for the remaining term.
